Driving iTunes from Powershell

#what's playing?
$iTunes = New-Object -comObject iTunes.Application
$iTunes.CurrentTrack | select Name, AlbumArtist, Genre, Time

$iTunes.Mute = $true $iTunes.Mute = $false

$iTunes.Stop() $iTunes.Play() $iTunes.Pause() # toggle play/pause $iTunes.PlayPause()

$iTunes.NextTrack() $iTunes.PreviousTrack()

Now I just need Powershell talking with my Arduino and I can have my iTunes remote.

My BareBonesBoard

Put my BBB together last night. The published directions were good. It wasn't step-by-step, rather 'Start with the SMT inductor, then add the resistors and capacitors' and so on. I'm proud of the soldering job, this is one of the cleanest boards I've ever done. The order you put the components on does matter, if you follow the instructions you start with the smallest components and then move on to the larger ones. That makes assembly easier because you can usually set the board flat when you apply the solder. The resistors and Diodes are a snug fit; this is a tight board. I think if I was going to embed an arduino board in a larger project I would use the BBB.

Thanks to dfowler at ucHobby.com for providing this board to me.

And now, AVRISP-duino

I made and published code to turn the Arduino into an AVR910 ISP programmer. Sadly, avrdude won't program fuses on the '910. So I'm working on some AVRISP (version 1) software.

Getting the fuses working was the easy part. Avrdude uses the Universal command for that, so it is essentially just passing the commands from avrdude right to the SPI port. Once I set my /RESET line as output it worked like a charm. But I can't have two arduino based programmers that don't do the whole job.

Took some work but I now have writing to the flash working also. I've only tried it on the Tiny2313 chip, so some of my assumptions might not hold for other chips. I want to get it working with AVRStudio also, so that will take some more work.

Now that I can program fuses I can set the Tiny2313 to run at 8MHz instead of the default 1MHz. Sometimes that's useful. I can also set it to use an external crystal or resonator, which opens up a wide range of frequencies.

I like working on projects like this. The constraints help me focus (it has to work with avrdude for example). The protocol is documented, so part of it is just implementing the protocol. And I wind up with a tool I can use on future projects.

I have a project on Google Code for Mega8 based ISP software. I'll post this one after I get it cleaned up a bit.

Arduino Starter Kit
MAKE Blog How-to Tuesday posted a challenge: Optimize the sketch code for a pressure sensor bar graph. Here is my second attempt: int gate[] = {10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 32767}; void setup() {DDRB = 0b00111110;} void loop() { int dval = 0; int rval = analogRead(2); for (int x = 0; rval...

Measuring Supply Voltage
I'm running my latest handheld computer on solar power. It starts up when the sun rises and runs all day. I started wondering how I could measure the voltage coming in from the solar panel. I came up with a way to use a diode and a resistor and the...

Ten Pin ISP adapter
I've already built a six pin ISP adapter, but my Olmex cards use the ten pin ISP. I put a header on a scrap of perf board, added an LED for the heartbeat, and then connected the ten pin cable. Actually it is a fifteen pin cable, off a joystick...

Hello 5x7 Style
Wrote a new firmware for the 5x7 display. Now it scrolls out 'hello' over and over again. I'm running it on a solar panel, so it wakes up with the sun and runs all day long. When I built the LED matrix I put resistors on the five columns. I'm starting...

Sorting Out Page Sizes
There is a new release of AVRISP Emulation for Arduino. This is an Arduino firmware that allows you to program other AVR microcontrollers. The new zip file (avrisp.01.zip) should compile on the current Arduino IDE, and I changed the comments that put the wrong labels on the SPI pins. Go ahead...

Flash Problems
I'm building a project using the AVR ATMega8 microcontroller. Once I got the thing wired up to where I could write firmware to it I found that it was always failing. I made a .hex file full of 0x10 values (256 bytes worth) and tried uploading that to the chip....

William's Arduino Board
I'm building an Arduino-compatible board for William. I'm building it on the Evil Mad Scientist MegaXX8 business card. It will have four built-in LEDs and a USB interface. It will also have connectors so he can use it with a breadboard. Perhaps we can connect it to some of his...

Cybord Signal Detector
Some digital radio signals use Frequency Shift Keying (FSK). This often has one frequency for a Mark and one for a Space. I plan to build a cybord or other chip that will decode an FSK signal, producing three different values: NO_SIGNAL, MARK, and SPACE. The signals would then go...
